The Israeli Reich announced that the IDF will be taking full control of Gaza by occupying the remaining 20%, displacing 1,000,000 people and cramming them into an ever-smaller area with a plan to ultimately deliver on its goal “from the river to the sea, not a Palestinian will be seen”. In effect, continuing its genocide. Any references by the Reich about the destruction of Hamas and the freeing of the hostages are bare-faced lies. One, they cannot do; the other, they do not care about. Serious people in the Israeli establishment, including past and current members of the Israeli security services, are advising against this.
It has been regularly reported in opinion polls that the Israeli electorate wants the so-called war (euphemism for a slaughter) to end, and the hostages released. Well, it’s time they got off their asses and onto the streets in their millions to stop war crimes being committed in their name. Israel-based human rights organisation B’TSELEM, in a report called “Our Genocide”, called the actions of the Israeli Regime an attack on humanity. What’s next, the acceleration of the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and East Jerusalem?
Yet again, the voices of the democratic West are muted. Keir Starmer could only muster the word “wrong” in response to the Reich’s new strategy. Let me add, someone who is from the left of the political spectrum, the current Prime Minister’s values don’t reflect mine, and if Boris was a low point in our Prime Ministerial history, Starmer is pretty dam close with three and a half years still to go. David Lammy, our Foreign Secretary, is entertaining and praying with his fellow Christian brother and Catholic convert J D Vance, a man without an ounce of humanity or values, Christian or otherwise. Vile has only one ambition: to be anointed as the chosen one to replace his guru, Trump and take the seat behind the Resolute Desk.
The Trump administration will have given Netanyahu the nod to carry on with this genocidal strategy. This advice will be coming from the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, a fundamentalist Christian Zionist whose support for Israel comes from the Old Testament and his belief in the Second Coming.
This barbarous campaign conducted by the IDF has cost 60,000 lives, including 30,000 women and children and has turned Gaza into an apocalyptic landscape. Deaths not from bullets, shrapnel, bombs, air strikes, assassinations and starvation, but as a consequence of the deliberate destruction of the social and medical infrastructure, have been conservatively estimated at an additional 150,000.
“Never Again” is happening again this time in front of our very eyes. Screw the current American administration; the governing class in the rest of the free and democratic world, firstly, must break all diplomatic relations with the Israeli State, stop all arms sales, and implement a complete trade embargo with the current Israeli regime, now clearly a pariah state. Anything less simply reinforces their complicity in the genocide in Gaza. This is what I hope for, but this may be a lot to ask from Starmer, Merz and Macron, other EU members, all of whom lack the moral and political courage to do the right thing. This lack of political and moral courage will make up a significant part of their legacy and epitaphs.
Finally, at an event which I attended where a young 22-year-old journalist from Gaza spoke with passion, frustration, and quite anger at the complicity of regional powers and Western democracies in Gaza’s genocide. He was also frustrated by the lack of a broader societal response to the genocide. When asked a question about whether he still believed in a two-state solution, his response showed the anger, hopelessness and despair of a generation: He said” A two-state solution would be like inviting serial killers into your home”.
This one line has haunted me for days.
