Another day, another mass shooting in the daily lives of Americans
“That Shining City on the Hill” Yes! That “Shithole” America
Just in the last 10 days again, the world has witnessed in the US another two-mass shootings. The first was in Buffalo where an eighteen-year-old white supremacist who had embraced the great conspiracy theory called the “The Great Replacement” killed 10 African Americans who were doing their weekly shop. This is a bullshit conspiracy theory propagated by Renaud Camus about white Europeans has found its way into the political discourse of right-wing republicans, white nationalists and not surprisingly, and Fox News. It suggests that the white liberal elite and Jews, of course, are using immigration of non-whites, combined with the falling birth rate of the white communities to replace them, with the objective of consolidating their power, influence and privilege. This so-called theory is deeply steeped in the pseudo-science of eugenics.
The dignity shown of both communities in Texas and Buffalo in the face of such tragedies should be a lesson to all, but not to ignore the systemic racism that exist in American institutions. For example, the criminal justice system and the racism that exists within white communities such as “redlining” which is a subtle form of Jim Crowe era segregation.
The killing of nineteen kids and two teachers was in Trumps ass kissing Governor Abbot’s state of Texas and is one of twenty-seven school mass shootings in the US this year and one of the 212 mass shootings in the US in total this year. This crime was also committed by another 18-year-old boy who was able to get a 150 rounds per minute semi-automatic as easy as getting a Big Mac. If this is not absurd, what the hell is. This pattern of school shootings comes after Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech and many more. Republican leaders such as McConnell whose only solution to gun violence is a phoney call to prayer and to lean on a crutch called God. A republican party obsessed with the right to life of an unborn child but do not seem to give a dam about kids being mowed down in schools. Senator Ted Cruz’s phoney and insincere sympathy for the families of the children massacred in Texas is shameful and was followed up by, you will not believe this, Senator claims banning weapon used by the gunman who killed 21 in Uvalde would result in more children dying because of street crime. This takes WTF to a whole new level though, I would expect nothing more from this God fearing, Trump ass kisser, devoid of a moral compass or for that matter any humanity.
Do you remember Dylan Roof the 21-year-old, another far right white nationalist who murdered 10 African American worshippers in the Emanuel Methodist Church in Charleston? His goal was to start a race war. The CIA have clearly stated last year that the greatest terrorist threat in the US comes from far-right white neo-Nazi and not from Islamists. It now seems that their security analysis, poo pooed by republicans is unfortunately true. Yet it is these very same right-wing republicans who wish to embrace this” there is good on both sides” white nationalist demographic. Just to remind you “there is good on both sides” was Trump’s analysis when white Neo Nazis who shouted “Jews will not replace us” were confronted by anti-fascists counter protesters. It was in 2017, at this event in Charlottesville where Heather Heyer an anti-fascist protester was mowed down in a car driven by white nationalist, James Fields.
Why in America? Because it is the home of the second amendment of the American constitution which gives all citizens the right to bear arms. However, in those days it was a musket that took 30 seconds to load and fire a single round. In the land of the free and the stupid an 18-year-old can get an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle but cannot get a Budweiser until the age of twenty-one. An amendment that was useful just after the American War of Independence, has no place in a civilised society today.
There are 400million guns in America, more than the entire population and yet only in America have they not worked out that there is a direct correlation between gun violence and the ease with which you can acquire a gun. The NRA, yes, the NRA the National Rifle Association, which is a powerful gun lobby, has bought off many republican law makers and consequently no meaningful gun control laws have been passed in decades.
Sky’s Mark Stone’s short interview with Cruz at the vigil for the murdered children is telling of a man with no redeeming qualities either as a legislator or as human being. Watch the interview. Texas Governor Greg Abbot, a second amendment fundamentalist has made open carry legal and has allowed anyone over the age of eighteen to buy the AR 15 semi-automatic rifle. Solutions to the Texas massacre proposed by these Gilead type males, is to arm teachers and have armed security guards at all schools. This would turn schools, from places you go to enjoy the acquisition of knowledge and build relationships, to sanctuaries of fear. WTF is wrong with these people. This can be understood when interviewed, a Trump supporting, half-wit female republican said, “It isn’t guns that killed people, it’s people.” The fact the psycho that killed the nineteen children and two teachers was able to acquire a semi-automatic rifle with ease, seems beyond the mental capacity of this group of people to work out the correlation. Republican lawmakers or in this case not lawmakers refer to the issue of mental health as a causal effect for the epidemic of mass shootings. If this was so and not the obvious 2nd amendment, then many Americans and pretty much all republican legislators must be suffering from mental health problems.
If an America President ever again calls countries outside the US “shitholes” maybe saying it standing in front of a mirror first ,would be a clever idea.
